Dewayne Washington, CEO and managing member of DWG, has nearly a decade of experience in general contracting and property services. Dewayne has amassed a portfolio of clients and projects that extend from historic properties in Durham, N.C., to the southeastern United States. His leadership has led to the establishment of partnerships with several major community development firms, including Greenfire Development, a community development firm responsible for the redevelopment of several downtown, historic properties in Durham – including the N.C. Mutual Building.
Character, excellence and service have defined Dewayne’s work in general contracting, and is a part of the commitment he delivers with each client. But it was his earliest years in Georgetown, S.C., that shaped him into a leader. And it all started with football. At the age of six, Dewayne threw his first football to his biggest fan, his father. What was once a bonding time between father and son would later take Dewayne to the international stage with the National Football League (NFL), where he had a successful career for 12 years, playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Having performed at the highest-level prepared Dewayne to establish DWG in 2010, becoming one of the first African-American firms to specialize in concrete placement, and successfully tackling major projects, including the redevelopment of the Lincoln Hospital in Durham, N.C., the largest redevelopment by an African-American firm at the time. It is also what gave him the audacious character in 2015 to expand DWG into the arena of property services.
Dewayne’s commitment to his clients is second only to his service to community. From 1995-2005, Dewayne passionately ran the Dewayne Washington Foundation, which provided education services and increased access to technology for youth attending college in North Carolina. He serves on the Board of Trustees of North Carolina State University, his alma mater, and has served on Ravenscroft School Board of Trustees and WakeMed Foundation in Raleigh, N.C.
He is married to Adama Washington and the two have three children.
